Listen, talk. (My Tribute to Vincent van Gogh)
It is said that some expressions, although received by no one, are still two-way, spoken both to others and to oneself. Among them, some are initially violent towards oneself and become another form of violence when expressed outwardly. It’s a kind of soliloquy that has two directions.
Hands can give and receive; for Van Gogh, ears can give as well as receive. I hope you listen; I hope you speak.
I say: “Listen,” I say: “Talk.” I say the names of those objects, and as I read them, it’s like I’m speaking to them.
I say: “Listen,” I say: “Talk.” I say the names of those objects, and as I read them, the voice in my mind — like subtitles — speaks to me.
